Grandmother's Mac and Cheese

Like Kerin, my grandmother's legendary mac and cheese has a crunchy top!

INGREDIENTS

  • 16 oz elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 3/4 stick of cheddar cheese, grated
  • 3 cups of milk
  • butter-about 2 tbsp
  • salt and pepper.

DIRECTIONS

Bake at 350 in 13X9 inch dish.

Cook macaroni according to directions--don't over boil. Mix cooked macaroni, grated cheese, salt and pepper. Put in casserole dish. Pour milk over mixture. Dot with small pieces of butter. Bake 1 hr. ( To make dinner time easier, earlier in the day I have mixed everything but milk in casserole dish and put in fridge. At last minute, add milk and bake)

We always loved the crunchy top. We used to get in trouble if we took the serving spoon and scooped only the crunch top! But some kids who are raised on the creamy kraft macaroni and cheese don't like the crunchy part. I offer to eat the crunchy top and they can have the bottom! So nice of me!! LOL!!!
