Betty Benson's Sugar Cookies

This is the recipe from my friend's mother-in-law and I don't know what they are called as I have the title as "Betty Benson's Sugar Cookies". This will be our 16th year making them (we've tried a few other recipes, but always come back to this one.)

You can freeze the dough if it will be more than 3 days before you bake them.

We use cookie cutters, but if the dough gets too warm it will stick, so we only work with a little dough at a time and keep the rest in the fridge.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 c butter (not margarine)
  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 1/2 c flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

DIRECTIONS

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beat well (very important). Add vanilla. Gradually add dry ingredients. Chill at least 24 hours--the longer the better. Bake at 375 for 6 to 8 minutes may need longer depending on how thick you roll them out.
