Our chili recipe is very simple, but we love it!
1 lb. lean ground beef (or turkey), I use 93/7 meat
1 small onion, chopped
2 cans diced tomatoes
2 small cans or 1 large can tomato sauce
2 cans of "chili beans" (I think they are just pintos in a spicy chili
1 packet of mild chili seasoning
Cook beef and onion until cooked through and onion is tender. Dump all
the cans into the pan with the meat and onion, along with the packet
and cook on simmer for about 30 minutes. Put into bowls and top with a
dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese. This recipe
makes quite a bit, and it's perfectly good cut in half, too!
I use the "no salt added" kind of tomatoes, sauce and beans, but that
is certainly optional.
